Zachary David McDowell of Park Hills passed away February 26, 2009, at St. Anthonys Medical Center at the age of 26 years. He was born on August 19, 1982, at Farmington, son of John Gregory and Lura Jane (Gordon) McDowell. He was preceded in death by grandparents, Ralph (Bud) McDowell, Wanda (Mickey) McDowell Burcham, and Lee Roy Gordon, and by a dear great-uncle John (Jay) McDowell. Zac was a graduate of Mineral Area College and Missouri Baptist University, where he earned a degree in education. He was a great lover of sports. At Central High School, he was active in many sports and while a student at Mineral Area College he was a member of the baseball team. He was a teacher at Centrals West Elementary School. At Central schools he served as an assistant high school baseball coach and middle school football coach. He was named Walmarts Teacher of the Year in 2007. Zac put the Lord first in all things. He was a loving husband, treasured son, and brother. His greatest joy was being a daddy. He was an active member of the Esther Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School class and worked with youth groups. He also was a member of the choir and the churchs Praise and Worship team. He helped sponsor the Fellowship of Christian Atheltes. He is survived by his wife Renee (Tisher) McDowell and son Tucker Christian Zachary McDowell, both of Park Hills, a brother, Will Michael McDowell of Columbia, his parents, John and Jane (Gordon) McDowell of Farmington, a grandfather Robert Burcham and a grandmother, June Gordon, both of Park Hills, and the parents of his wife, Ronald Joseph and Regina Tisher of Park Hills. Three nephews and numerous cousins also survive. Friends may call from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, March 3, 2009, at the Esther Baptist Church at 412 Seventh Street in Park Hills. Visitation will resume on Wednesday at the Church from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. at the T.J. Foulon Field House at Central High School, officiated by the Rev. Jonathan Jones, pastor of the Esther Baptist Church, and the Rev. David Wright, pastor of the Three Rivers Baptist Church. As a tribute to Zacs long love of sports, everyone is asked to wear their favorite team sports jersey at the funeral service. Burial will follow at St. Francois Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Zac McDowell Trust Fund at a Belgrade State Bank. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Cozean Memorial Chapel.
