William Wescoat Roberts

FARMINGTON William Wescoat "Bill" Roberts of Farmington passed away Sunday, June 12, 2016 at Parkland Health Center in Farmington at the age of 86 years. He was born September 24, 1929 at Farmington son of the late John Miller and Evelyn Marie (Jenkins) Roberts. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Evelyn "Bee" Boyer.

Bill graduated from Farmington High School in 1946. At age 16 he was drafted by the Pittsburg Farm Club to play Baseball which he did locally for many years and later coached MABA and Traveling League Baseball. After high school he went on to attend Southeast Missouri State University at Cape Girardeau earning a Bachelors Degree in Business. In 1952 he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and proudly served his country until he was honorably discharged in 1956. Upon his return from the service Bill helped his parents in the operation of the family business, Roberts Office Supply in Farmington. From an early age Bill worked in the family business learning all the ins and outs of the business from his parents and upon his mother's death in 1969 he assumed ownership and took over the operation of the business. He was a long-time businessman and a strong supporter of Farmington commerce and growth.

He was a life-long and faithful member of the Memorial United Methodist Church of Farmington, a Life-time Member of VFW Post 5896 and the American Legion Post 416 and was also a member of Farmington Elks Lodge 1765. In his spare time he enjoyed bird hunting, watching sports events, creating works of art with his carved canes, and was also an avid reader.

He will be missed by all those who knew and loved him including his wife, Mary H. (parker) Roberts of Farmington; two sons, J. Michael Roberts of Farmington and Christopher W. Roberts of Farmington, a daughter Melissa Roberts Zimpfer (& John Jeffries) of Crystal City, a sister Norma ( & Jerry) Whitehurst of Farmington as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, dear friends and neighbors.

Friends may call on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Cozean Memorial Chapel & Crematory. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 16, 2016 at the Memorial United Methodist Church of Farmington. Interment with full military honors will follow at the Knights of Pythias Cemetery in Farmington. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Memorial United Methodist Church Chancel Choir, the American Cancer Society, or the American Heart Association.
