William Charles McClure of Farmington passed away on Friday, February 25, 2011, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center, at the age of 64 years, 3 months, and 14 days. He was born on November 11, 1946, at Ste. Genevieve County, son of the late Charles and Viola (Porter) McClure. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and Kenneth McClure. Bill grew up in Ste. Genevieve and Perry counties. He was a 1966 graduate of Perryville High School. He went on to proudly serve his country during the Vietnam War in the U. S. Army. After his honorable discharge from the military Bill was employed by the Southeast Missouri Mental Health Center, where he retired in 1992. An avid workaholic, he enjoyed cutting wood and just being outdoors. His family was his pride and joy. Bill was notorious for helping others and reaching out to those in need. His last gift to someone in need was the donation of his eyes. William is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sharon "Sherry" (Wright) McClure; two sons, Dwain William McClure and wife Christina, and Brian Glen McClure; a daughter, Angela "Angie" Rebecca (Mrs. Tony) Lee, all of Farmington; four grandchildren, Marc Wright, Julia McClure, Kelsi Lee and Austin Lee; four sisters, Wanda Vaughn, Norma (Mrs. Frank) Ullman, Rosalie (Mrs. Larry) Therit and Nancy (Mrs. Roy) Schmidt and a brother, Terry McClure and wife Lisa. Also surviving are a host of the many critters he loved and cared for. Friends may call at Cozean Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, March 2 from 4 to 8 p.m. A VFW service will be held at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume Thursday morning from 7 a.m. until the beginning of the service at 11 a.m. in the Cozean Chapel with Pastor David Wright officiating. Interment with military honors will be at Knights of Pythias Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans.
