Wilbert Leo Weiler, of Farmington, passed away January 30, 2015 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau. He was born September 11, 1919 in Weingarten to the late Charles and Catherine (Fallert) Weiler. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy (McDaniel) Weiler in 1988; his step-daughter, Sandra "Suzy" Womack in 1986; two step-granddaughters, Dawn Heaps and Carrie Rainwater; two sisters, Irma Ritter and Frieda Huber; and three brothers, Oliver, Clarence and Paul Weiler. After graduation from high school in Ste. Genevieve County "Bert", as most knew him, proudly served his country in the U. S. Army during World War II. Upon his return to civilian life, he worked as a body mechanic which turned into a life long career for him. For many years Bert was a dedicated caregiver to his wife who was handicapped from a car accident. Throughout the years he enjoyed gardening, wine making and fishing. His family will remember him as an excellent cook whose specialty was liver dumplings, among other things. Bert was a long time member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where he had served as an usher. He also was a member of the Farmington VFW, the American Legion and the Farmington Elks Lodge. Survivors include his step-son, Charlie Womack and wife, Mina; step-granddaughter, Laurie Heaps, along with seven other step-grandchildren; a brother, Vincent Weiler; special nephew, Ron Weiler and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family. Friends may call on Monday, February 2, 2015 from 5 - 8 p.m. in the Cozean Memorial Chapel. Visitation will resume Tuesday morning beginning at 7 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father James Dyer as Celebrant. Interment with military honors will be held at Parkview Cemetery. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Glaucoma Research Society.
