Wanda L. Grissom

FARMINGTON Wanda Lee Grissom of Farmington entered into eternal rest on January 30, 2024 at Parkland Hospital at the age of 84. She was born in Fredericktown on August 10, 1939, to the late Paul Fortner and Agnes (LaChance) Fortner. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her late husband, Raymond Grissom in 1975; a brother, Denver Fortner and a sister, Linda Dillow. Wanda grew up in Fredericktown and went to school at Mine la Motte and graduated from Fredericktown High School. She went on to St. Louis where she attended nursing school. Early in her adult life she worked as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company up until the time she pursued her career as a nurse beginning in 1964. She worked in the nursing field for 39 years. She loved to go fishing and she enjoyed hunting squirrel and turkey as well. Wanda was a great cook whose specialty was stuffed peppers and fried chicken. Her family will lovingly remember and cherish her feisty nature. Survivors include her three daughters, Tracy (Roger) Grissom, Tina (Joe) Snyder, and Rae Grissom; ten grandchildren, Matthew, Julia, Billy, Donovan, Brandie, Chelse, Chris, Megan, Cruz and Shelbie; 29 great grandchildren; siblings, Mary (the late Bobby) Stacy, Bill (Montez) Fortner and Debbie Fortner; a host of nieces, nephews and extended family. A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, February 2, 2024 beginning at 4 p.m. at Cozean Memorial Chapel followed by a memorial service at 6 p.m. View the tribute video and share your condolences at cozeanfuneralhome.com.
