Vernon Mcdowell

Vernon Clem McDowell, age 81, passed away Saturday, December 31, 2016 in Farmington. He was born on February 19, 1935 in Doe Run, MO to the late Bertha (Williams) McDowell and Clem McDowell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters Mary Ann McDowell and Martha McDowell-Ogle and one brother, George McDowell, all from Farmington.

Vernon proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He worked as a construction laborer through the Laborers Local 110 for nearly 35 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, yard work, auctions, and bingo, as well as spending quality time with his family.

Vernon is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Christine Merritt-McDowell; two sons, Dale (Melody) McDowell and Doyle (Tammy) McDowell; four grandchildren, Ashly McDowell-Hoehn (Nick), Branden McDowell, Amelia McDowell, and Garrett McDowell; one great-grandchild, Claire Hoehn; four step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren and brother, Walter McDowell.

Friends and family may call at Cozean Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, January 3, from 5 8 p.m. Visitation will resume on Wednesday morning beginning at 7 a.m. until the time of the service at 1 p.m. in the Cozean Chapel with Rev. Tim Morgan officiating. Interment will follow at Hillview Memorial Gardens. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Alzheimers Association.
