Vernita L. Horton

PARK HILLS- Vernita Louise (Wright) Horton of Park Hills, passed away June 9, 2012 at the age of 93 after a nine year battle with Alzheimers disease. Vernita was the only child of the late Oda Wright and Ona (Kennon) Wright-Burns. She was born March 4, 1919 at Mine La Motte. She was a 1936 graduate of Esther High School, and a 1937 graduate of the Missouri Beauty Academy of Farmington. On November 2, 1938 she married William Houk Horton Jr. of Flat River. They were blessed with two children William H.(Bill) Horton III born in 1941, and Meekee Marlene Hull born in 1954. Vernita was preceded in death by her parents, Oda in 1948, and Ona Viola in 1997; her step-father Thomas Burns in 1966, her husband William in 1988, and her son Bill in 1993. She is survived by: her daughter-in-law, Carolyn "Susie" (Caldwell) Horton, of Park Hills; her daughter and son-in-law, Meekee and Michael Hull of Farmington; grandchildren Drs. Michael and Melanie Hull of Phoenix, AZ, Matthew and Tera Hull of Desloge, and Melissa and Rob Mathes of Farmington; seven great grandchildren Elliot, Houston, Emily and Ava Hull all of Phoenix, AZ, and Hannah Mathes of Farmington. She is also survived by her extended family: Betty Hull of Doe Run and Debbie Rehkop of Farmington. A Memorial Service for Vernita will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday August 2, 2012 in the Mausoleum Chapel at the St. Francois Memorial Park in Bonne Terre.
