Verna Clark

Verna M. Clark of Farmington passed away on Sunday, October 31, 2010 at the age of 90 years. She was born January 23, 1920, in Perry County, the daughter of the late William (Will) and Virgie (Umfleet) Johnson. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Chester in 1995 and two brothers, Leonard and Hadley Johnson. Verna became a Christian at Silver Point Union Church at the age of 14. In more recent years, she enjoyed singing in the Senior Center Choir at Fredericktown and also worked at the various benefits the Center sponsored. She was a member of the Shamrock Extension Club. Verna volunteered for more than three years at Camelot Nursing Home prior to her more recent residence there. Most of her adult life, Verna was active at the Coffman Baptist Church and taught childrens Sunday School. While living in St. Louis County, Verna joined the Webster Groves Baptist Church. After a thirty year career with the Trimfoot Shoe Company Verna retired to a life of attending bluegrass music festivals, traveling, visiting family and friends, making beautiful quilts, afghans and other crocheted projects. Survivors include two sons, Clifford R. Clark of Ste. Genevieve County and Kenneth L. Clark of St. Louis County. Clifford married Sharon L. (Winebarger) Clark and Kenneth married Pat A. (McCord) Clark. Verna was a grandmother to Eric Wade Clark of Imperial, Lori Michele (Clark) Kem of Fulton, Clifford Ray Clark, II and Tabitha Lynn Clark, both of Ste. Genevieve County, and great-grandmother to twelve children. She is also survived by a brother, Leeman Johnson of Washington, PA; three sisters, Trula Hahn of Bridgeton, MO, Eula Wells and Erma Hopkins both of Farmington and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family. Friends may call at the Cozean Memorial chapel on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. Visitation will resume on Thursday morning beginning at 7 a.m. up to the time of the service beginning at 10 a.m. with the Rev. R. Dean Stewart officiating. Interment will follow at Hillview Memorial Gardens. The family requests memorials be made to the Church of your choice.
