FARMINGTON - Velma Lorene Dawson, of Farmington passed away Monday, October 8, 2012 at Parkland Health Center at the age of 84 years, 2 months and 19 days. She was born July 20, 1928 at Knob Lick, daughter of the late Jesse Aaron and Emily Belle (Williams)Bible. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Marvin Dawson, son Jerry Dawson, and nine brothers and sisters. Velma was retired from the Guth Lighting Company in St. Louis, where she had worked on the assembly line. After retirement she worked and lived in Las Vegas before returning to the Farmington area. She was a member of the St. Luke United Methodist Church of South St. Louis, IBEW Local #1 of St. Louis, and the Farmington VFW Ladies Axillary. She is survived by three daughters, Nancy Gesterling of Farmington, Linda Platnico of St. Louis, and Kathy Howard of Farmington, sons Harry Dawson of Mexico, MO and Terry Dawson of Arnold, step-children, Sandra Flowers, Deanna Lea, and Marion Brown, sister Stella Olive of Doe Run, sister-in-law Sadie Bible of Desloge, twenty-five grandchildren, thirty-seven great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. Friends may call at the Cozean Memorial Chapel from 9 to10 a.m. on Wednesday, October 10, 2012, with a funeral service to follow at 10 a.m. Interment will be in the Knob Lick cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. All arrangements have been entrusted to the care and direction of the Cozean Memorial Chapel & Crematory.
