FARMINGTON -Thomas Eugene Starnes, Sr. of Farmington passed away, Friday, August 30, 2013 at Parkland Health Center at the age of 75 years. He was born April 11, 1938 at Doe Run, son of the late P. M. and Ollie Naomi (Bowman) Starnes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter Kimberly Sue Starnes, seven brothers, Horace Starnes, Russell Starnes, Vernon Starnes, Kermit Starnes, Sr., Bruce Starnes, Orville Starnes and one infant brother, six sisters Clara Starnes, Lois V. Dunham, Lucille Starnes, Evelyn Schuster, Alma Lee Starnes, and Inez Crites. Tom proudly served his country in the Army and Army Reserves. He was a long-time and faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Doe Run where he served as a Deacon and Sunday-school teacher. He was a longtime member of the Mineral Area Realtor's Association. Tom enjoyed being a real estate agent, helping families to find, purchase, and sell homes and was known in the community for his dedication, honesty and hard work. In his spare time he enjoyed riding his motorcycle. He also enjoyed camping and fishing with his family. Tom enjoyed gardening, maintaining and repairing autos, mowers, and many other items. Tom will be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved him including his beloved wife of 55 years, Shirley (Lacey) Starnes of Farmington, son Thomas E. Starnes, Jr. of Farmington, daughter Cynthia (Mrs. Jim) Byington of Farmington, a granddaughter, Rebecca Byington, sister Edith (Mrs. John Huff) of Doe Run, a brother, Wayman (Sue) Starnes of St. Louis, and numerous other relatives, friends, and neighbors. Friends may call on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Cozean Memorial Chapel & Crematory. Visitation will resume on Wednesday after 7 a.m. and continue until the the time of the service at 10 a.m. in the Cozean Chapel with the Reverend Keith Huffman officiating. Memorials, if desired may be made to the First Baptist Church of Doe Run. Interment with full military honors will be in the Doe Run Memorial Cemetery.
