Sherry Lynn Killian

March 1, 1962 — August 12, 2017

FARMINGTON Sherry Lynn Killian of Farmington passed away August 12, 2017 at the age of 55. She was born in Highland, Illinois on March 1, 1962, the daughter of the late Dale Gainer and Joann Gainer, who survives. In addition to her father she was preceded in death by her aunt, Beulah Benton and a brother, Benjamin Gainer.

A Farmington High School graduate, Sherry received an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from Mineral Area College. She worked for the State Hospital and later for the prison system until her retirement after twelve years there. She also was employed for ten years at East Missouri Action Agency. Sherry enjoyed crafting, painting and refurbishing things. Spending time with her family on camping trips and going garage saling were some of her favorite activities. Her family will remember her as being a person who always went to bat for the "underdog", whoever they were.

Survivors include her husband of 37 years, Jesse Killian; her mother, Joann Gainer; two daughters, Melanie Johnston and her husband, Jason, and Jessica Killian; 3 grandchildren, Isaiah, Noah and Gabe; a brother, Dale Gainer, Jr. and wife, Dawn; a sister Vicky Mason and husband, Tony; sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 18, 2017 at 3 p.m. at Cozean Memorial Chapel with Rev. Doug Tucker officiating. View the tribute video and share your condolences at cozeanfuneralhome.com.
