FARMINGTON – Sheila Irene Powers of Farmington passed away unexpectedly at her home on January 2, 2025, at the age of 68. She was born on September 26, 1956, in Farmington to the late Burle Mabrey and Mary Lou (Harrington) Warren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Craig Powers in 2021, and two infant brothers.
Sheila was a 1974 graduate of Farmington High School. Soon after graduation, she met the love of her life, Gene Powers. They were married in Doe Run in 1976. She worked at a local arts and crafts store for several years and then she had a childcare service in her home. She also worked as a teacher’s aide for Mrs. Alice Johnson at Washington Franklin for 8 years. When her son, Mike was in school she was active in his sporting activities and coached soccer, basketball and baseball teams. She was an active marching band mom as well.
Sheila and Gene were nurturing and loving caregivers to their disabled son, Craig for 34 years. She was very active in the Spina Bifida Association and spent many hours working with fundraisers for that organization.
She was an outgoing person who never met a stranger and who would, at the drop of a hat, do anything for anyone. She will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Gene Powers; her son, Mike (Amber) Powers of Farmington; two grandchildren, Chad and Alexis; two sisters, Judith “Judy” Myers and Carolyn “Connie” (Lester) Lawson; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
There will be a memorial gathering at Cozean Memorial Chapel on Friday, January 10, 2025 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Interment will follow at Layne Cemetery near Park Hills with Rev. Chris Reyes officiating. Memorials, if desired, may be made in Sheila’s name to the Spina Bifida Association. View the tribute video and share your condolences at cozeanfuneralhome.com.
