Rudolph James "Jim" Schifferdecker of Farmington entered into the Lord's arms surrounded by his loving family on Monday, December 30, 2013, at the age of 75 years. He was born on March 27, 1938, at Norborne, MO, son of the late Rudolph John and Louise Anna Magdalena (Meyer) Schifferdecker. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister, Gerald, Arnold and Lois. Jim grew up on a farm near Norborne and went to college at Concordia Teachers College in Seward, Nebraska where he received a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and Organ. His first call was to St. Paul Lutheran School in Farmington. He served as a Lutheran school teacher for fourteen years in Farmington and Jackson, Missouri and Victor, Iowa. Upon returning to Farmington he worked at Mell's Hardware for several years before becoming a piano teacher. Jim served as church organist for 49 years in three different Lutheran congregations, primarily at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Farmington. In his spare time Jim enjoyed being with his family including his beloved grandchildren. He was involved in many church activities/ministries and also liked gardening, hiking with family and attending music concerts. Survivors include his beloved wife of fifty years, Carolyn Ann (Schramm) Schifferdecker; four daughters, Miriam Sutherland and husband, Kraig Sutherland, Martha Ochoa and husband, Enrique Ochoa, Karen Schifferdecker and husband, Paul Malan, and Kathryn Schifferdecker and husband, Doug Steinke; thirteen grandchildren, Kaleb, Nicholas, Rebekah and Elizabeth Sutherland, Joshua, Rebecca, Joel and Lydia Ochoa, Kian and Baden Schifferdecker, Esther, Isaac and Sarah Steinke; one brother, Charles Schifferdecker and wife, Joyce, one sister, Marguerite Daughters and husband, Richard; and a brother-in-law, John Schramm and wife, Diana. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at Cozean Memorial Chapel on Friday, January 3 from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday morning at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Farmington beginning at 11 a.m. with Pastor Merlen Wegener and Pastor James King officiating. Interment will follow at St Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Farmington. Memorials may be made to the St. Paul Lutheran Organ Fund, the Lutheran Hour or Lutheran World Relief.
