Ruby Tisher

September 11, 1928 — December 25, 2017

On Christmas Day, 2017, Ruby Louise Tisher, age 89, was called to her heavenly home after a valiant battle with a long illness. Devotion to the Lord Jesus Christ sustained her and her family throughout many difficult years. The last eleven years were made sweeter because of the caring and skillful ministry of Joleene Henson.

Ruby was born to the late Walter and Bessie Bailey on September 11, 1928, in Hickman, Kentucky. She surrendered her life to the Lord as a young adult, teaching and influencing her family in spiritual matters. Ruby was always active in her church by singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School, participating in mission efforts, and serving wherever she was needed. Her fried apricot pies, lemon meringue pie, and Italian Velvet Cake were stars at church potluck meals. She graduated from New Madrid High School and soon was employed with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, as an operator. After retiring from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, her life centered around church, gardening, sewing, cooking, and helping her family and friends.

Ruby was blessed with a large and loving family. She faithfully prayed for them and loved them all. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph D. Tisher, her parents, her step-mother Hazel Bailey, her sister Hattie Bailey, and her brother, Lee Poe. She is survived by her sons Doug Tisher and wife Pamela, Ron Tisher and wife Regina; her daughter Pamala Brownfield and husband Gary; her grandchildren Christie Jackson, Renee Thurston, Ryan Tisher, Joel and Joshua Brownfield; her great grandchildren Emilia Jackson, Tucker McDowell, Sawyer and Paisley Thurston; Rawlin, Anderson, Chamberlain, and Myla Tisher; Caleb and Eliza Brownfield; and, Abigail and Luke Brownfield.

Ruby was friendly, funny, and a bit feisty. Her strongest character trait was encouraging her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. It would not surprise her that her entire family has a strong faith, with all of them serving the Lord in churches, Christian and community ministries, and through their businesses. These were matters for which she prayed!
