KNOB LICK- Roy Andrew Murphy of Knob Lick passed away on March 2, 2013, at his home, at the age of 91 years. He was born on March 5, 1921, at Knob Lick, son of the late Charles Walter and Grace Edith (Snyder) Murphy. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Pat Murphy and a brother Herschel Murphy. Roy was a decorated World War II Army veteran having served in the European theater. While serving he was awarded four Bronze Stars, among other decorations and citations for his service. He was united in marriage to Alice "Pat" Medley on March 28, 1948. She preceded him in death in 2011. Before retirement he worked as a Carpenter Foreman for Midwest Woodworking. In his spare time, Roy enjoyed farming, fishing, and baseball, to name only a few among many other interests he had in his life. He is survived by his sons: Michael and his wife Laura and granddaughter Megan and husband Jonathan Mertz, and Richard and his wife Bonnie and three granddaughters, Amanda, Emily and Sydney. The family will receive friends at Cozean Memorial Chapel from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6, 2013. Friends and family will gather for a graveside service with full military honors on Thursday at 12:30 at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis with the Reverend Donn Adamson officiating.
