FARMINGTON Romona "Auntie" J. Penberthy, of Farmington, passed away peacefully at Shawnee Hills Independent Senior Living in Shawnee, Kansas on August 11, 2022 at the age of 90. She was born in Frankclay, Missouri to the late Alma and James Welker, she was preceded in death by her husband, William G. Penberthy in 2010; a grandson, Anthony James in 1985 and brother, James Welker in 2020. Romona, graduated from Frankclay High School 1950, and remained close to her classmate and brother-in-law, fellow Frankclay Eagle, Bill Helms. She retired from the Missouri State Hospital System in 1994. Some of her favorite past times were playing BINGO and the lottery. She especially enjoyed being a part of the Shriner community with her husband. Her sister, Kathryn Helms, was a very close friend throughout her life. Auntie, Kathryn and Bill went on many car road trips throughout the back roads of southeast Missouri, enjoying lunch, dinner, and shopping. She was an avid follower of the St. Louis Cardinals (Williams favorite), Missouri basketball and football. But her favorite and best pastimes were being a proud grandma, bragging about her grandsons, cheering them on in sports, visiting with them about all that was going on in their lives and cooking her famous chicken and dumplings for her family. Survivors include her sisters, Kathryn Helms of Farmington, Missouri and Georgia Holdman of Farmington, Missouri; three children, Bruce (Mona) Penberthy of Bucyrus, Missouri, Kathy (Dale Mason) Penberthy of Kansas City, Missouri and Annette (Jim) Frank of Shawnee, Kansas and five grandsons, Christopher Carrozza, Trevor (Molly) Mason, William Frank, Nicholas Frank and Joseph Frank. granddaughter, Melissa Turner (Mike), great granddaughters, ReShea Civey, Sky Kreitler,; Katheryn and Bill Helms, sister and brother-in-law of Farmington. Romona has several nieces and nephews and extended family members survive as well. Visitation will be held Friday, October 7, 2022 at Cozean Memorial Chapel from 4 7 p.m. A private family grave service will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2022.
