FRENCH VILLAGE Robert James Young of French Village passed away at Mercy Jefferson in Festus on January 28, 2017 at the age of 76. He was born in Edwardsville, IL the son of the late James and Hazel (Kassing) Young. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Alvin "Johnny" Johnson.
"Bob" as many knew him, grew up in Edwardsville where he graduated from high school. He went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1960 to 1965. After his service he returned to Illinois where he was employed for AMOCO in Wood River until his retirement in 1996. Upon his retirement, he and his wife, Carol, moved to French Village where he became a volunteer fireman for the Goose Creek Fire Department and for the Wolf Creek Fire Department where he worked until the time of his passing. Over the years Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding his Ranger "the green machine" and watching Cardinal baseball, however, most will remember him as being the "Ultimate Fan" of the Dallas Cowboys. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Farmington and served on the Board for the Wolf Creek Fire Department.
Survivors include his dear wife of 50 years, Lynn "Carol" (Lando) Young; three children, Lisa (Bill) Whitaker of Glen Carbon, Illinois, Tracey (David) Jenkins of Manchester, Missouri and Steve (Lesa) Young of Farmington; eight grandchildren, Jeremy (Gabby) Whitaker, Amanda (Alex) Flynn, Breana (Trent) Whitaker, Amanda (John) Paule, Stephanie Jenkins, Jordan Young, Chloe Young and Noah Young; six great grandchildren, Brody, Isabelle, Oliver, Maggie, Lucian and Lily; three sisters, Loretta Johnson, Clarine (Jim) Peterson and Judy (Fred) Schafer; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Friends may call at Cozean Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 from 5 8 p.m. with a service beginning at 7:30 p.m. by the Ozark Firefighters to commemorate Mr. Youngs faithful service. Visitation will resume on Thursday beginning at 11 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 1 p.m. in the Cozean Chapel. Interment will follow at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Farmington with Military and Firemen honors teams. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the American Cancer Society.
