FARMINGTON - Richard J. Kossman of Farmington passed away on March 28, 2023 at his home at the age of 79. He was born March 30, 1943 in St. Louis to the late Richard A. Kossman and Irene Lucille (Gadell) Kossman. Richard graduated from Hancock High School in St. Louis and went on to join the Army at the age of 17. He served in Korea and was a fuel and electrical specialist on Hawk Missile sites. After his military service he returned to the St. Louis area where he was a St. Louis City Policeman for six years and then he served on the St. Louis County police force for four years. While serving as a policeman, he had a side construction business which was called Kossman Redecorating. He eventually went into his construction business on a full time basis until 2018 when he retired. He and his wife, Barbara, were currently in the process of relocating to Farmington where they were building a home. Richard enjoyed leather crafting, fishing, hunting, antiquing and going to auctions. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Barbara Del (Ballew) Kossman; a son, Richard (Emily) Kossman; grandchildren, Nicholas and Lexi Kossman, all of Farmington; a sister, Audrey Campbell of St. Louis; four nieces and a nephew, Kay (Phil) Hinson, Beth (Don) Woods, Jeff Campbell and Terri (Ken) Combs. Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Nancy Ballew and her children, Steve (Denise) Ballew, Ryan (Amanda) Ballew and Jennifer (Matt) Parker, as well as numerous extended family and good friends.
