DOE RUN Reverend Edward E. Hampton, 86, of Doe Run, Missouri, passed away on July 10, 2017, at National Health Care in Desloge, Missouri. He was born on Sept. 10, 1930, at Doe Run, the son of the late Harvey Druey Hampton and Mary Elizabeth (Bainter) Hampton. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his eldest son, James Edward Hampton; two sisters, Margie Jones & Geneva Jones and four brothers: Wilburn, Orville, Donald & Raymond Hampton. A graduate of Rice Seminary in Jacksonville, Florida, he served as a minister of the Church of God of Anderson, Indiana for fifty five years. After leading churches in Graniteville, Cape Girardeau, Lutesville and Poplar Bluff, Missouri; as well as Jacksonville, Florida, Edward (as he liked to be called) returned to his hometown of Doe Run, Missouri in 1977 to serve as an evangelist and lay down roots. He also helped to found churches in Middleburg, Florida and Fredericktown, Missouri. Edward leaves behind his adoring wife of 69 years, Nettie Mae (Jackson) Hampton and seven children; Mary (Larry) Cross, Poplar Bluff, MO, Steve Hampton, Jacksonville, FL, Diana (Bill) Watson, Canton, GA, Sheila (Darrell) Faire, Jackson, MO, Lorna (Mark) Daganaar, Olathe, KS, Laura Hampton, St. Augustine, FL and Althea (Tim) Adams, Peoria, IL; eighteen grandchildren, Michelle, Matt, Laura Jean, Russell, Stephen, Jr., Harvey, Sylvia, Brent, Elizabeth, Darrell, Jr., LaDonna, Jessica, Grayson, Bridget, Caleb, Erica, Megan, and Tiffany; 30 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are four sisters, Pearl Hovis, Shirley Martin, Anna Marie Moore and Laura May McDaniel and four brothers, Everett, Fred, Sonny and Frank Hampton, as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family. Friends and family may call at Cozean Memorial Chapel on Friday, July 14 from 5 8 p.m. Visitation will resume Saturday morning beginning at 7 a.m. until the funeral service at 10 a.m. in the Cozean Chapel.
