Rev. Chester Self

Rev. Chester L. Self of Farmington passed away on Saturday, November 28, 2009, at DePaul Health Center in St. Louis, at the age of 87 years, 2 months, and 18 days. He was born September 10, 1922, at Logan County, KY, the son of the late Asberry and Lillian (Gill) Self. In addition to his parents Chester was also preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Rosalie (Fitzgerald) Self in 2005; a son, James Arlin Self in 1978; a brother, Frank Self, and two sisters, Lillian Abney and Eloise Self. After graduating from the University of Kentucky, Rev. Self graduated from Southern Seminary in Louisville, KY. He served his country during WWII in the U. S. Army Air Corps where he was stationed in India. He was the former pastor of the First Baptist Church of Iron Mountain for twenty-five years and prior to that he was pastor for seven years at Three Rivers Baptist Church. Spreading the Gospel was his passion and he was an avid reader of the Bible. Spending time with his grandchildren was one of his very favorite pastimes. Survivors include two sons, Gerald Self and his wife Kymberlie of Franklin, TN and Philip Self and his wife Mindy of Florissant, MO; a sister, Elizabeth Self of Springfield, TN; four grandchildren, Katie and Andrea Self and Courtney and Chad Self; and a host of extended family and friends. Friends may call at Cozean Memorial Chapel from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, December 1, 2009. Visitation will resume on Wednesday morning at the funeral home beginning at 7 a.m. until 9 a.m. Funeral services will follow at the First Baptist Church of Farmington on Wednesday at 10 a.m. with the Reverend John Canterberry and Dr. William Miller officiating.
