Rev. Charley Jay Upchurch of Farmington passed away on Thursday, October 25, 2007, at John Cochran VA Medical Center, at the age of 84 years. He was born on March 6, 1923, at Lutesville, MO, the son of the late Charley Franklin and Stella Alma (Rhodes) Upchurch. He was also preceded in death by sisters, Ruby Ellen Harris and Mattie Marie Mackley. Rev. Upchurch was ordained by the Southern Missouri District Council of the Assemblies of God in 1951. He served as pastor of several churches in Missouri, and with his carpentry skills, he built five of those churches. His last pastorate was at the Pilot Knob Assembly of God. He proudly served his country in the U. S. Navy during World War II. He is survived by his loving wife, Norma Jewel (Elders) Upchurch, four children, Carolyn Ruth Chester of the State of Washington, Janet Fay Fihaki of the State of California, Joyce Kay Rogers of St. Louis, and Mark Charley Upchurch of Farmington, sister, Stella Mae Murphy of Bonne Terre, eleven grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. Friends may call at Cozean Memorial Chapel from 5 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, October 28, 2007. Visitation on Monday from 7 to 9 a.m. at Cozean Memorial Chapel. Services will then move to the First Assembly of God Church of Farmington, with visitation from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. with the Rev. J. C. Moore officiating, assisted by the Rev. Randy Murphy. Burial with Military Honors will follow at the Revelle Cemetery at Cherokee Pass.
