Raymond Whaley

June 10, 1922 — February 27, 2010

Raymond Whaley of Farmington passed away on Saturday, February 27, at the age of 87 years, 8 months, and 17 days. He was born June 10, 1922, at Desloge, son of the late Frank and Esther (Allen) Whaley. He was also preceded in death by six brothers, John Paul, Ferlyn, Harold, Feral, Glenwood and William Whaley and a daughter-in-law, Joyce M. Casteel. A lifelong resident of the area, Raymond worked as a licensed electrician for many years. He proudly served his country during WWII in the Pacific Theatre. Upon his return to Desloge, he took a job with St. Joe Lead Mine where he was employed for 46 years. He was a life member of the American Legion Post 416 and VFW Post 5896. Raymond retired in 1984 and enjoyed fishing and hunting. In his spare time, he enjoyed teasing his great-grandkids and his cat Lucky who was his best friend. Survivors include the love of his life, his wife of 62 years, Mary Elizabeth (Casteel) Whaley, a son, Robert D. Casteel, a daughter, Joann (Mrs. Richard) Giroux; three grandchildren, Raymond L. Casteel, Melissa Huddleston and David Koebel; four great-grandchildren; Joann's four children; eight great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and acquaintances. Friends may call at Cozean Memorial Chapel from 3 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, March 6, 2010. The VFW and the American Legion will hold special services during the visitation beginning at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume Sunday from 10 a.m. until the beginning of the Funeral Services at 2 p.m. in the chapel with Dr. Rick Broadway officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Parkview Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Farmington Pet Adoption Center. Share your condolences and memories at cozean.biz.
