Raymond Copeland Hammers

Raymond "Ray" Hammers, of Imperial and formerly of Doe Run passed away July 3, 2012 in St. Louis at the age of 70. He was born in St. Louis on January 8, 1942 to the late Brizelee King. In additional to his mother Ray was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Hammers in 1971; two sisters, Geneva Barber and Vicky Sperino. Ray was a machinist for the Dorris Company in St. Louis for 37 years. He retired in 2004 and enjoyed collecting guns; classic cars and doing woodworking. Ray was a family man who always enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Janet (Hahn) Hammers; his two children, Michael Hammers and Michelle Hammers Harper; grandchildren, Cole, Rainha and Quinn Hammers and Drew Bridges; two sisters, Phyllis Wilcox and Sandy King; and a brother, Jim King. Also surviving are two step-grandchildren Austin and Dawson, nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call on Friday evening in the Cozean Memorial Chapel from 5 to 8 p.m. Visitation will resume on Saturday morning with services to follow in the Cozean Chapel at 10 a.m. with Father James Dyer officiating.
