Raymond Callanan

July 25, 1924 — October 26, 2017

MEXICO, MO Raymond Callanan, formerly of Farmington, passed away on October 26, 2017 at the Missouri Veteran's Home in Mexico, Missouri at the age of 93. He was born July 25, 1924 in Comfrey, Minnesota to the late Edward Callanan and Mae Rose (Amsden) Callanan. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son Leroy Callanan, his youngest sister, Mae Schlimme, and a brother, Ed Callanan. He married Lois (Bakke) Callanan who preceded him in death; then he was married to Virgie (Bloom) Callanan who also preceded him in death.

Raymond was a World War II veteran having served in the United States Army and was actively involved in the 65th Infantry Division. He was a life time member of the Farmington VFW and was past grand master of the St. Francois Odd Fellow Lodge #48. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Farmington. Raymond had been an electrician and was formerly superintendent of Municipal Utilities in Vandalia. In his spare time he was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed bowling as well as his lodge activities, especially the lodge Pancake Breakfast.

Survivors include two sisters, Vera Hyatt and Dodi Callanan; daughter, Susan Dyer, of Columbia, Missouri, son, Kenny (Patty) Callanan of Kellogg, Minnesota; and daughter, Kathy Hermann of the state of Arkansas; five grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren, and a daughter-in-law, Dorothy Callanon.

Friends may call on Monday, October 30, 2017 from 5 8 p.m. with an Odd Fellows Service at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume on Tuesday, October 31, beginning at 7 a.m. until the service beginning at 10 a.m. in the Cozean Chapel with Rev. Rick Foss officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Farmington. Memorials, if desired, may be made to Odd Fellows Lodge, the Fightin 48ers.
