Raymond A. Wind

FARMINGTON- Raymond Abner Wind of Farmington departed this life Saturday, May 26, 2012 at the Camelot Nursing & Rehab Center at the age of 94 years. He was born March 9, 1918 at Bellville, Illinois, son of the late Charles P. and Augusta A. (Heim) Wind. On April 23, 1943 he was married to Wauna Helen Neff. She preceded him in death on February 10, 2007. In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by a sister Dorothea Collar. Ray grew up in Flat River, where his family owned and operated Wind's Bake Shop. He was educated in the Flat River School System and proudly served in the Army during WWII as a member of the 836th Engineering Battalion in the South Pacific Theater. He worked for the family bake shop and later worked as a salesman for Ward Baking Company and Holsum Bread Company. After retirement he worked at various jobs. He was a skilled craftsman in woodworking, and offered his services out of his home on Wallace road in Farmington for many years. In addition to woodworking he also enjoyed playing the organ. Ray was a member of the Memorial United Methodist Church, and had resided at Ashbrook Assisted Living for the past five years. Ray will be missed by all those who knew and loved him including his niece, Nancy(Collar)Miller of Muncie, IN, three sister-in-laws, Ruth Neff of Buena Vista, CO, Mabel Gallagher (William) of Sullivan, and Betty Gardner of Grand Junction, CO, a brother-in-law, Don Neff of Park Hills, and numerous other nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Cozean Memorial Chapel & Crematory on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 beginning at 1p.m. and until the time of the funeral service at 2 p.m. with Ray's long-time friend, Minister Bernie Crum officiating. Interment will follow at St. Francois Memorial Park in Bonne Terre. Memorials if desired may be made to the Memorial United Methodist Church of Farmington.
