FARMINGTON- Ray Stewart Detring, of Farmington, passed away Saturday, February 18, 2012 at the age of 79 years. He was born November 10, 1932, in Farmington, the son of the late George Wesley and Julia Elizabeth (Klein) Detring. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, and the mother of his children, Betty Jo (Koen) Detring, and a brother, Paul Detring. Ray grew up in the Farmington area, and attended Farmington schools where he later became somewhat of a local football legend. After high school he attended Mizzou to play football, and then was drafted to play for the New York Giants. He played for the Giants a short time before returning home and soon after was drafted into the Army. While in the Army, Ray was selected to play football at Fort Lee, VA for the Army team. Ray was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. He worked 14 years as a foreman at River City Cement, and retired from the Farmington US Postal service as a rural carrier. His full-time job was his farm where he raised prized Charolais Cattle. Ray was an honorable man. He was loving, generous, and always willing to drop whatever he was doing to help others. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him, including his wife, Nena D. (Castillo) Detring of Farmington; daughter, Ginger R. Stribling and husband Jim of Phoenix, AZ; son, Marcus Detring and wife Susan of Farmington; two step children, Angela Dane and Danny Dane and wife Maria and their children, Beth, Paola and Oscar; special granddaughter, Brooke; three sisters; Patricia Brockmiller of Arnold, Barbara Foster of Oklahoma, and Charlotte Simms and husband Jim of Wentzville; brother, Jean Detring and wife Betty of Farmington; and dear sister-in-law, Darlene Detring McWilliams of Farmington. Many other relatives, friends and neighbors also survive to mourn his passing. Friends may call at the Cozean Memorial Chapel & Crematory on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 from 5 to 8 p.m. to celebrate Ray's life with his family. Visitation will resume on Wednesday from 7 to 11 a.m. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Pastors Merlen Wegener and James King officiating. Burial will be at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials if desired may be made to the St. Paul Lutheran Church Organ Fund.
