Phyllis Gibson

FARMINGTON Phyllis Gibson,70, of Farmington, passed away October 16, 2023 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in St. Louis on February 28, 1953 to Paul Edward Gibson and the late Bonnie Jean (Jarvis) Gibson. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her son, Daniel Evans in 2020; her brother-in-law, Paul Long and a nephew, Bradley Gibson. Phyllis spent her growing up years in St. Louis until the family moved to Viburnum when she was a senior in high school. In 1971 she graduated from Viburnum High School. She later received a bachelors degree in art from Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield. Her career as an art teacher was spent teaching in Lesterville and North St. Francois County. In 2011 Phyllis retired and enjoyed spending time working in her garden, reading and crocheting. She loved being at the creek and spending time with her grandchildren. If anyone she knew had a birthday, she was notorious for singing Happy Birthday. Her family will fondly remember her for her selflessness and her heart of gold. She always had the ability to see the best in people. Survivors in addition to her father include her son, Douglas (Barbara) Evans; grandchildren, Sebastian Evans, Silas Evans, Tatum Evans and Torin Evans; and siblings, James (Lori) Gibson, Connie (Gary) Scott, Brenda Long, Mark (Helen) Gibson and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 20, 2023 at Cozean Memorial Chapel beginning at 10 a.m. with a service at 12 noon in the Cozean Chapel with Reverend John Canterberry officiating.
