Harold Edward "Pete" Johnson of Farmington, MO, formerly of St. Louis, MO passed away March 29, 2021 at Presbyterian Manor at the age of 91 years, 7 months, and 5 days. He was born August 24, 1929 in Annapolis, MO, son of the late Benjamin Franklin and Irene (Risher) Johnson, and Tessie (Ashbaugh) Johnson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary "Ruth" (Sims) Johnson, his sisters Helen Johnson, Mabel Jeffery, and Barbara Ann Skaggs, his brothers Helbert and Gerald Johnson, and a daughter-in-law Donna Johnson. While his name was Harold, most people knew him by his nickname "Pete" given to him by his grandfather. He was a 1947 graduate of Annapolis High School. Pete proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1948-1952. He served in the headquarters for the 3rd Armored Division based in Tokyo during the occupation at the conclusion of WWII. On November 22, 1952, he was united in marriage to Mary "Ruth" Sims and to this union two children were born. They were married 67 years. Pete worked as an accountant in St. Louis and this is where they raised their family. After retiring in 1991, Pete and Ruth enjoyed traveling and visiting with family. Pete loved spending time in his hometown of Annapolis, and that is where he spent countless hours over the course of his life enjoying his two favorite hobbies hunting and fishing. In his spare time, he also enjoyed daily walks in the park near his home, watching old Westerns and cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his son, Steven Ray Johnson and wife Amanda of Ste. Genevieve, MO and his daughter, Linda Sue Govero and husband William of St. Louis, MO. Also surviving are three grandsons, Eli, Ben and Tyler, his sister-in-law, Gayle Vroman, along with many nieces, nephews and extended family. Friends and family may call at Cozean Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 beginning at 10 a.m. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. in the Cozean Chapel with Chaplain Bob Webb officiating. Interment with military honors will follow the service at Annapolis-Lewis Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimers Association or to Annapolis Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
