FARMINGTON - Paul S. Powell of Farmington passed away September 3, 2018 at Parkland Health Center in Farmington at the age of 81. He was born July 18, 1937, in West Plains, Missouri to the late Bradford and Irene (Strickler) Powell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Sue (West) Powell who passed on May 5, 2017 and his daughter, Ashley Elaine (Powell) McKay. Paul was an ordained United Methodist minister who served many churches throughout the state of Missouri and was an advocate for gay rights. He was the former chaplain at the Farmington, Potosi and Bonne Terre correctional facilities for over fifteen years. After retiring from ministry, he had his own garage door hanging business. Paul enjoyed beekeeping and loved volunteering at the Farmington Pet Adoption Center. He was a talented seamstress who made all the girls dresses as they were growing up. Paul was a man of many talents, a jack of all trades and a gentle giant with a heart of gold. Survivors include his four children, Nancy Loughary of Farmington, Lynda (Bill) Marshall of St. James, Tony Powell of Sullivan, and Matthew Powell of St. Charles, six grandchildren, four siblings, John (Janet) Powell of Princenton, NJ, David (Lynn) Powell of New Mexico, James (Marie) Powell of Columbia, and Mary (Tom) Duzan of Monroe, LA, nieces, nephews and many friends.
