Opal May Sutton

FARMINGTON Opal M. Sutton, of Farmington, passed away Sunday, June 5, 2016 in her home at the age of 97. She was born in Des Arc, Missouri on December 2, 1918 to the late William Fahland and Della (Miller) Fahland. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, George E. Sutton in 2006; three brothers, Herbert, Moman and Homer Fahland; one sister, Lois E. Fahland; and one grandson, Tony Ray Shivers.

Opal grew up in a large family near Annapolis, Missouri. She lived in St. Louis for many years before moving to Farmington. She worked for more than 20 years as a machine operator for the Louis Howe Company, manufacturer of Tums. She was a faithful and active member of the First Baptist Church of Farmington. In her spare time she enjoyed quilting and doing ceramics. She was a devoted mother and grandmother to her family whom she adored.

Survivors include her children, Reta (Ed) Uriwal of Farmington, Kenneth (Carol) Sutton of Arnold and Michael (Linda) Sutton of DeSoto; eight grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; fourteen great great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Dodson of the state of Texas; two brothers, Ivan Fahland of Arnold and William (Wanda) Fahland of Farmington; a host of nieces, nephews, special friends and extended family.

Friends may call at Cozean Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, June 7, from 5 8 p.m. Visitation will resume on Wednesday morning beginning at 7 a.m. until the service at 10 a.m. in the Cozean Chapel with Dr. Bill Miller officiating. Interment will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery at 1:15 Wednesday afternoon. Memorials, if desired, may be made to First Baptist Church of Farmington or to BJC Hospice.
