FARMINGTON - Norman A. Jackson Jr., of Farmington passed away August 27, 2012 at NHC Health Care in Desloge at the age of 87 years. He was born November 6, 1924 at Esther, son of the late Rev. Norman A. Sr. and Zephyrs A. (Heistand) Jackson. In addition to his parents was preceded in death by four brothers, Thomas Jackson, Stanley Jackson, Amos Jackson, and Eugene Jackson, and three sisters, Naomi Dickey, Ruth Cromer, and Christine Burns. Norman proudly served his country in the Marine Corps during WWII in the Pacific Theater, and fought in the Battle of New Caledonia. During the Korean War he served in the 2nd Battalion 7th Regiment Fox Company, and fought in the Battle of Fox Hill at the Chosin Reservoir. He was a member of the "Chosin Few". After returning from the Marine Corps, Norman attended College at William Jewell University in Liberty, Missouri, earning his Bachelor's Degree in English, and began a teaching career as a high school English teacher at Doe Run and later Farmington, retiring with thirty years of service. In his spare time he enjoyed fox hunting, watching his grandson race at the St. Francois County Raceway, listening to classical music, traveling, and riding his motorcycle. Norman will be missed by all those who knew and loved him, including his wife of 58 years, Shirley (Hull) Jackson of Farmington, two daughters, Teresa and husband Steve Harris of Farmington and Linda and husband G.G. Cottros of Fredericktown, a son Stanley and wife Jo Jackson of Bismarck, four grandchildren Casey and wife Ashley Barnhouse, Matthew and wife Lindsay Jackson, Amy and husband Sean Lively, and Curtis Parrott, five great grandchildren Emma, Grace, Taylor, Preston, and Lauren, a brother Milton Jackson of Farmington and a sister Nettie and husband Ed Hampton of Doe Run. He is also survived by many other relatives, dear friends and neighbors. The family will receive friends at the Cozean Memorial Chapel & Crematory on Wednesday, August 29, 2012 from 5-9 p.m. Visitation will resume on Thursday after 7 a.m. with a funeral service to follow at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Kerry Lupkey officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Doe Run Memorial Cemetery. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the American Lung Association.
