Nita Mae Tork

October 21, 1926 — November 30, 2016

FARMINGTON Nita Tork, 90, passed away November 30, 2016 at Presbyterian Manor in Farmington. She was born October 21, 1926 in Lawton, Oklahoma, the only child of the late Roy Lee Oakley and Alice Ellen (Goochey) Oakley.

Nita attended high school in Lawton and then moved with her mother to Topeka, KS when her mother was transferred there during WWII. She attended Topeka High School. She met her husband in Topeka, James Woodrow Tork, who was with the USMC and was home on leave. They were subsequently married on May 18, 1944 in San Pedro, CA. He predeceased her as did a grandson, Tyler Springstead. She held an associate degree from Washburn University in Topeka and was retired from the State Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas where she worked as a pharmacy tech. A member of a local book club, Nita was an avid reader and enjoyed cooking, baking, needlework and was a Master Gardener. She was very politically involved and considered herself a "Yellow Dog Democrat". Nita was a loyal member of United Memorial Methodist Church of Farmington where she was an active member of UMW. She was a friend of Bill Ws for 55 years.

Survivors include her five children, Sharon A. Pendergast (Dr. Joseph Godfrey) of Gastonia, NC, Michael S. Tork of East Falmouth, MA, Shelley C. Raker (Robert) of Carlisle, PA, Teresa L. Tork (William Craven) of Sacremento, CA and Stacey L. Springstead of Farmington; six grandchildren, Amy M. Pendergast, Heather A. Tork, Cullan L. Springstead, Daniel R. Hellweg, Anne E. Hellweg and Grace C. Hellweg; three great grandsons; one great granddaughter and a half sister, Gail Giles of Lawton, Oklahoma

Friends and family may call at Cozean Memorial Chapel on Saturday, December 3, 2016 beginning at 9 a.m. until the service beginning at 10 a.m. in the Cozean Chapel with Chaplain Bob Webb and Reverend Scott Hall officiating. Interment will follow at St. Francois Memorial Park in Bonne Terre. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the charity of donors choice.
