Nellie B. Wiley

Nellie B. Wiley of Farmington passed away surrounded by her loving family on Monday, June 11, 2012, at the age of 93. She was born on January 25, 1919, in St. Louis, daughter of the late Albert and Ethel (Hill) Wiley. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one sister, Erma Gallagher; two brothers, Homer Wiley and Donald Wiley and her special life long friend, Fern Kassebaum. Nellie grew up in Farmington where she graduated from high school in 1937. She went to work at Rice Stix Textile Corporation until 1955 when she became a Union Representative for ACTWU in Little Rock, Arkansas. After holding that position for nearly thirty-eight years Nellie retired and moved back to Farmington. She was a faithful member of the Memorial United Methodist Church of Farmington. In retirement she was active in the Church's UMW circle and was also a member of 55 Plus. Nellie will be remembered by many as a political activist who never missed a chance to talk politics. In her spare time she enjoyed sports and was an avid reader. Nellie is survived by four sisters, LaVerne "Babe" Hulsey, Barbara Govro, Marilyn Wiley and Jetty Reese and husband, Lloyd; one brother, Albert "Pete" Wiley and wife, Mildred, all of Farmington; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many good friends. Friends may call at Cozean Memorial Chapel & Crematory on Thursday, June 14 from 5 to 8 p.m. Visitation will resume in the funeral home on Friday morning beginning at 7 until 9:30 a.m. Funeral services will follow beginning at 11 a.m. at the Memorial United Methodist Church with Reverend Robert Bullock officiating. Interment will be at Parkview Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Memorial United Methodist Church or the St. Paul Lutheran School.
