Mildred Geraldine "Sarah" Smith of Farmington passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2013, at the age of 75. She was born on January 30, 1938, at Grundy, TN, daughter of the late Jess and Lassie Arizona (Levan) Johnson. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Smith, two sons, Crandel Smith and Melvin Gene Higgins, two sisters, Estel Guy and Laura Taylor and a brother, Milton Gene Johnson. Sarah as most knew her, grew up in Tennessee where she attended school and became a beautician. She met and fell in love with a soldier from Ironton, Missouri named Kenneth Smith. Soon after they were married in the state of Wisconsin, she and Kenneth came back to Missouri to make their home in Oats. After Kenneth's passing at a young age in 1980, Sarah moved to the St. Louis area where she worked as a beautician at Crandel's Coffiures. In 2002 she came to Farmington to retire. Sarah loved her children and will be remembered for her strong dedication to her special son, Gene, whom she gave her whole life to, caring for him. Survivors include her son, Craig E. Smith; two sisters, Geneva Buchholz and Faye Essary; three brothers, William Johnson, Melvin Johnson and Herschel Johnson; two grandchildren, Tiffany and Ryan; special friends, Gladys Yeager and Donald Hawkins; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Friends may call at Cozean Memorial Chapel on Friday, October 25 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon followed by the funeral service at 12 noon. Interment will be at Knights of Pythias Cemetery in Farmington.
