Michael Francis Mattingly of Farmington fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church on Wednesday, September 28, 2011, at the age of 86 years. Michael was born on April 20, 1925, son of the late Hattie (LaChance) and John William Mattingly. He was also preceded in death by an infant son, Joseph Michael Mattingly, a sister, Barbara Richardson, and three brothers, William Firman Mattingly, Vincent Mattingly and Jerry Mattingly. Michael was born and lived his entire life in the old German Community, south of Knob Lick, where he farmed and raised his family. In November 1955 he married Rosella (Howell) Mattingly. Mr. Mattingly had been a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and his later years became a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Farmington. Before retirement, he worked in construction in the local area. He enjoyed gardening and liked to go squirrel hunting. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by three children, Angela Mattingly Sitzes (David) of Arcadia, Ron Mattingly (Vesta) and Peggy Mattingly, of Farmington, six grandchildren, Lori Richards, Michael Miller, Ashley Pauley, Brandon Duncan, Tyler Mattingly and Emma Mattingly, and four great-grandchildren. Numerous other relatives and friends also survive. The family will receive friends at Cozean Memorial Chapel from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, September 30, 2011. Visitation will resume on Saturday at 7 a.m. with a funeral service at 10 a.m. in the Cozean Chapel with Father James Dyer officiating. Interment will follow at St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery in Fredericktown. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic School, 10 North Long St., Farmington, MO 63640 or to BJC Hospice.
