FARMINGTON - Mary "Ruth" Johnson (nee Sims) of Farmington, MO, formerly of St. Louis passed away October 21, 2020 at Presbyterian Manor at the age of 91 years, 11 months, and 29 days. She was born October 23, 1928 in Sparta, TN, the youngest child of the late Grover Cleveland and Callie (Myatt) Sims. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers A.T. and Clevie "Bill" Sims, her sisters Lela M. Alexander and Vesta L. Jordan, and a daughter-in-law Donna L. Johnson. Ruths mother passed away when she was very young and she was raised and cared for by her siblings and remained close to them through the years. She moved to St. Louis as a teenager where she graduated from Central High School in 1948. On November 22, 1952, she was united in marriage to Harold E. "Pete" Johnson and to this union two children were born. They continued to make their home in St. Louis until moving to Farmington in 2018. Ruth was a longtime member of the United Pentecostal Church of Lemay where she taught Sunday school for many years. Ruth and Pete enjoyed traveling and visiting family in their retirement years and crisscrossed the country several times during their travels. Her greatest joy came from caring for her family. She was a devoted mother who enjoyed baking, sewing, reading, listening to southern gospel music, and tending to her flowerbeds. She adored her grandchildren and loved spending time with them. Ruth had a gentle, soft spoken nature and always sought to find the best in others. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Pete; her son Steven Ray Johnson and wife Amanda of Ste. Genevieve, MO and her daughter Linda Sue Govero and husband William of St. Louis. Also surviving are three grandsons, Eli, Ben and Tyler, her sister-in-law, Gayle Vroman, along with many nieces, nephews and extended family. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 28, 2020 from 10 11 a.m. at Cozean Memorial Chapel followed by a funeral service at 11 with Chaplain Bob Webb officiating.
