Mary Idora James

FARMINGTON Mary Idora James of Farmington passed away Thursday, July 28, 2016 at her home in Farmington at the age of 88 years. She was born on December 8, 1927 at Gipsy daughter of the late Jasper Newton and Flora Jane (Stilts) Gilliland. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers Hubert Gilliland and Charles Gilliland.

On June 24, 1946 at Jackson, Missouri she was united in marriage to Donald Lee James who survives. She was a long-time member of the Farmington Church of the Nazarene and was a proud and devoted homemaker. In her spare time she enjoyed sewing and cooking but her greatest joy was spending time with her family.

She will be missed by all those who knew and loved her including her husband of more than 70 years, Donald Lee James of Farmington, three sons Charles R. James of Farmington, Steven B. (& Susan) James of Bonne Terre, and Donald T. (& Tina) James of Festus, three daughters, Deborah (& Ken) Wade of Farmington, Meredith K. (& Scott) Vangilder of Cape Girardeau, and Cynthia L. James of Cape Girardeau, a brother Lamar Gilliland of Fredericktown, a sister Diane Gibbons of Paducah, Kentucky, ten grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, numerous other relatives, dear friends, and neighbors.The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to Deanna Odle, the Serenity Hospice Nurse and the Serenity staff. Many thanks also to all Mary's many caregivers, especially Laura Henry, her caregiver and friend of many years.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8p.m. at the Cozean Memorial Chapel & Crematory on Sunday, July 31, 2016. A funeral service will be held on Monday in the Cozean Chapel at 10 a.m. with the Reverends Alan David and Richard Straight officiating. Interment will be in the Berrong Cemetery near Gipsy in rural Bollinger County. Memorial donations, if desired, may be made to the St. Francois County Board for the Developmentally Disabled.
