Mary Ellen Weiss

March 31, 1925 — July 1, 2013

Mary Ellen Weiss of Doe Run passed away on Monday, July 1, 2013, at the age of 88. She was born on March 31, 1925, at Flat River, daughter of the late Paul and Ruth (Skaggs) Stevens. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Stevens. A life long resident of St. Francois County, Mary Ellen married the love of her life, Melvin "Tissel" Weiss on February 21, 1948 in Pocahontas, AR. She will be remembered as a dedicated and loving mother which is a memory her family will cherish. Mary Ellen was a wonderful homemaker whose cooking was delightful. Survivors in addition to her husband of 65 years, "Tissel", include one daughter, Paula Hale and husband, Don, two sons, Steve Weiss and Russell Weiss and wife, Darlene; four grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; two sisters, Billie June Middendorf and Tess Asher and husband, Francis; three brothers, Sterlyn Stevens and wife, Doris, Joseph Stevens and wife, Charlotte and John Stevens and wife, Darlene; and nieces, nephews and extended family. Friends may call at Cozean Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, July 3 from 5 to 8 p.m. Visitation will resume Thursday morning beginning at 7 a.m. until the service at 10 a.m. in the Cozean Chapel with Reverend Ray White officiating. Interment will be at Weiss Cemetery in Doe Run. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Doe Run Fire Department.
