Mary Elizabeth Thomas

Mary Elizabeth (Archer) Thomas, aged 85, passed away peacefully on September 28 at her home in Farmington. She was born on February 10, 1939 to Frank Thomas Archer and Ellen Moore Hale in Hannibal, Missouri. Mary completed high school in Hannibal. She married Murphy Lee Thomas on January 23, 1959 in Doe Run, Missouri. Murphy's father, John Wesley Thomas, performed the ceremony. Mary was a full-time wife and mother to their two daughters, Christina and Teresa. She was a founding member and speaker for the local Women’s Connection brunch group in the area, and also involved in numerous Bible studies for the Christian Women’s Club. Mother Mary was very outgoing and loved planning and decorating for parties and celebrations. She had party hats for every occasion and made sure they were worn and that pictures were taken. Her husband, Murphy; her family; and her many friends were Mary’s biggest passions. Mary's constant positivity, enthusiasm, and faith could always lift your spirit and bring a smile to your face.

She is survived by Murphy, her husband of 65 years, daughters Christina Jackson and Teresa Huhman both of Farmington, 6 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and Mary's sister, Ann Funkenbusch, of Havana, Illinois. Family and friends are invited to a celebration of life on Wednesday, October 2nd at The Bridge Community Church (301 Lore Lane, Leadington, Mo), to reminisce and honor Mary’s life beginning at 4 p.m. There will be food, decorations, and a photo-booth in the lobby. This is an opportunity to meet with family and friends to share memories in lieu of a formal receiving line. Please come wearing a fun hat or grab one when you arrive.
