FARMINGTON Martin J. Johns, of Farmington passed away on March 13, 2018 at Presbyterian Manor at the age of 94. He was born May 7, 1923 in Chamois, Missouri to the late Henry Johns and Rubie C. (David) Johns. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a grandson, Walker Johns; two sisters, Esther Townley and Louise Johns and two brothers, Joe and William Johns.
Martin graduated from his home town high school in Chamois, Missouri and went on to serve his country after being drafted into the Army at the age of nineteen. He attended Missouri University where he attained a Bachelors Degree and later a Masters Degree. He began his career as an Agriculture Teacher in the Sullivan and Centralia school districts. Most of his career, however, was spent as an Extension Agent for more than thirty years for the Missouri Extension Office both in Perryville and Farmington. Martin will be remembered as a very hard worker who loved ranching and raising cattle. He also enjoyed his participation with the local 4-H club.
Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Lois (Windsor) Johns; their children, Kenneth James (Kelly) Johns of Farmington, Patricia Johns (Tom) Crook of Joplin, Richard (Mary Ann) Johns of Catonsville, Maryland, Elizabeth Johns (Doug) Nardi of Aurora, Illinois, Andrew David (Carrie) Johns of Chesterfield and Steven Martin Johns of Farmington; grandchildren, Zoe Johns, Christy (Darryl) Cox, Jessica Johns, Alex and Matt Nardi, Darren and Lauren Johns, Jacob Johns and great grandchildren, Jordan, Colby, Eli, and Abby Cox; and a sister, Frances (Charlie) Smith of Austin, Texas.
There will be a gathering of family and friends at Cozean Memorial Chapel on March 31, 2018 beginning at 1 p.m. followed by a service of celebration at 2 p.m. in the Cozean Chapel. Interment will be at Copenhagen Cemetery in Farmington. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to the Walker Johns Childhood Cancer Foundation.
