FARMINGTON - Marla Hammers, 67, passed away at Parkland Health Center in Farmington on December 4, 2021. She was born in St. Louis on January 3, 1954 the daughter of the late Robert Mell and Ruth (Findley) Mell. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her grandmother, Sylvia Findley, who raised her. Marla was a 1972 graduate of Farmington High School. She worked for many years driving a bus for Southeast Missouri Behavioral Health Aquinas Center. Later she was employed at NHC Nursing Center in Desloge as a receptionist until her retirement. Marla loved to sing and at the age of nine she made her singing debut on a St. Louis radio station. Throughout her life she enjoyed singing at various events. Her friends and family enjoyed her wonderful cooking. All who knew her will agree that Marla loved to laugh. Survivors include her husband, Michael Hammers; her son, Todd (Melissa) Umfleet; grandson, Jake Umfleet; special cousins, Linda (Larry Bess) Brooks, John Huitt, Brook (Joe) McDaniel, Cole and Gunner McDaniel; step-daughters, Leslie (Bryan) Gegg, Carie (Cory Wolff) Thomure and Pam Hammers; five step-grandchildren and one step great grandchild, Axel; and her beloved canine companion, Sassy. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening, December 8, from 5 - 8 p.m. at Cozean Memorial Chapel. Memorials, if desired, may be made to American Lung Association in care of the funeral home.
