FARMINGTON Mark Smith, of Farmington passed away Saturday, May 14, 2016 at Southbrook Skilled Nursing Center at the age of 62. He was born July 26, 1953 to the late Willard "Bill" Smith and Lavada (Shaw) Smith, who survives. In addition to his father he was preceded in death by a sister, Tonya (Smith) Tucker. He was also preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Vernon C. Barton and Mary Ruth Moon.
Mark was a life long resident of the area and graduated from Farmington High School in 1971. He was retired from the Doe Run Company where he worked at a variety of positions there. He will be most remembered for his quick wit and great sense of humor. Mark had the great ability to figure out how to fix and repair just about anything. In his spare time he enjoyed fixing up cars and trucks, racing, playing piano, organ and harmonica. His love of animals was a passion with him. Mark bravely fought a twenty five year battle after his diagnosis with Multiple Schlerosis without ever a complaint.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and staff at Southbrook Skilled Nursing Center for their love and care for Mark.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Debbie (Barton) Smith; two sons, Aaron Smith and Nathan Smith; all of Farmington; one very special granddaughter, Taylor Smith; a sister, Sharon (Mrs. Jim) Guinn of Fredericktown; his step-mother-in-law, Berta Barton Drye; brother-in-laws, Scott (Sherrie) Barton and Doug (Trish) Barton, sister-in-law, Tamara Reece; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
Friends may call at Cozean Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, May 18, from 5 8 p.m. Visitation will resume on Thursday morning beginning at 7 a.m. until the service beginning at 1 p.m. in the Cozean Chapel. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill United Baptist Cemetery. Memorials, if desired may be made to Preferred Hospice.
