Mabel Marie Wood

Fredericktown- Mabel Wood, 91, passed away July4, 2012 at Claru De Ville Nursing & Rehab Center. Mabel was born March 21, 1921 at Cornwall, the daughter of the late Dawson and Margaret (Martin) Callaway. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers Ernest Callaway and William Callaway. Mabel will be remembered by many as the co-founder of Martha's Animal Sanctuary, which she operated here in Missouri for nearly thirty years, dedicating her life to the care and protection of animals. Caring for those animals became the single most important thing in her life. She will be missed by all those who knew and loved her, including three sons, Darrell Griffon of the State of California, Jaryl Giffon of Fenton, and Jack Wood of Bonne Terre, 7 grandchildren, and numerous other relatives and friends. Graveside services will be held at the Snowdenville Cemetery at Cornwall on Saturday, July 7, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. With the Reverend Gary Stabenow officiating.
