Lowell R. Cunningham of Bonne Terre passed away September 2, 2011, at the home of his son, at the age of 92 years. He was born March 17, 1919, in Farmington, son of the late Lawrence and Myrtle (Patterson) Cunningham. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Mable J. (McCombs) Cunningham in 1985, two sons, Raymond L. and Terry L. Cunningham and his brother, Floyd M. Cunningham. A lifelong resident of the Bonne Terre area, Lowell attended school in Cave Springs. He began farming at a young age and was a farmer at heart for the rest of his life. In his early 20s Lowell joined the U. S. Navy. He proudly served his country for seven years during WWII. e was employed for more than thirty years at Southeast Missouri Mental Health Center where he retired in 1982. In his retirement he continued with his favorite pastime, farming. Survivors include his two children, Cheryl A. (Mrs. Tom) Gentry and James L. Cunningham and wife Kimberly all of Bonne Terre; a granddaughter, Loretta Lynn Dunn and her five children of Canada; and two step-grandchildren, Robbie Rogers and Brittany Webber both of Bonne Terre. Also surviving is a special friend, Lindze F. Johnston of Bonne Terre. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caregivers from Safe Harbor Hospice who provided excellent care to Lowell. The family will receive friends at Cozean Memorial Chapel from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 6, 2011. Visitation will resume on Wednesday beginning at 7 a.m. until the time of the service at 2 p.m. in the Cozean Chapel with Chaplain Sandra Ledbetter officiating.
