Lois Nadean Lester

April 21, 1928 — September 22, 2017

FARMINGTON Lois Nadean Lester passed away September 22, 2017 at Community Manor at the age of 89. She was born on April 21, 1928 to the late Clay and Ida Rhodes who resided mostly in the Boot Heel of Missouri. In May, 1945, Lois graduated from the Bloomfield, Missouri High School. After graduation she moved to St. Louis and worked as a secretary most of her adult life. On November 12, 1949 she was united in marriage to Virgil Lester in St. Louis and two children were born to this union, a son, Bill Lester and one daughter, Judith Ann Lester.

Virgil and Lois later moved to Lesterville where Virgil had been born and raised. They bought a farm and lived there for more than 30 years. Virgil passed away in July, 1991 from a stroke. Another burden of grief came on St. Patricks Day of 1993 when she lost her only daughter, Judith Ann from Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma Cancer.

Judy left two teenage sons, Christopher Scott Powellson and Michael Powelson who after Judys passing were taken care of by their grandmother, Lois, who gave them a good home, put them through school, and cared for them until they were out on their own. She truly loved these boys as her own. In May of 2012, again she was deeply grieved from the passing of her oldest grandson, Christopher Scott Powelson. Other family members that preceded Lois in death in addition to her parents, were two brothers, infant,Carl Rhodes and Clyde Rhodes of Poplar Bluff; five sisters, Evelyn Choat of Tucson, Arizona, Ruth Conrad of Farmington, Clare Wechling of OFallon, MO. Georgia Jackson of San Diego, CA and Mary Alice Todd of Clinton, MO. Out of eight siblings, Lois has one surviving brother, Donald Rhodes and wife, Ruby, of Brighton, Illinois.

Lois loved to write poems and books and has had a few published. One was her biography which she has left for her family. When she was in high school she composed a song that was sung at her family reunions for 50 years. She loved gospel music and was a Christian and a faithful believer in Jesus Christ. She was an active member in the Lesterville First Baptist Church. In 1991, after the passing of her husband, she moved to Farmington to be near her daughter in her time of illness. She leaves to mourn her only son, Bill Lester and daughter-in-law, Sonia, of Florissant, MO; one granddaughter, Karla Lester Repperger and husband, Daniel, of Chesterfield, MO; two grandsons, Michael Powelson and wife, Misty of Columbia, MO and Joseph Lester and wife, Lauren of Bloomsdale, MO. She leaves to mourn six great grandchildren, Natalie and Sydney Powelson of Columbia, MO and Abigail,, Nathaniel, Benjamin and Samuel Lester of Bloomsdale, MO. She also leaves to mourn one brother, Donald Rhodes and sister-in-law, Ruby Rhodes of Brighten, Illinois and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
