Lois Ann Simpkins

FARMINGTON - Lois Ann Simpkins, of Farmington, passed away December 26, 2014, at Parkland Health Center at the age of 74. She was born in Chester, Illinois, on September 17, 1940, to the late Carl and Ada Hartenberger. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Simpkins earlier this year on March 24. Lois grew up in Chester, Illinois, where she graduated from High School. She went on to St. Louis to attend Gradwall School of Technology where she became certified as a Laboratory Technician. She worked in various locations as a Lab Technician before moving to Farmington in 1980. In Farmington she became active with the Order of the Eastern Star having held various officer positions throughout the years. She was the District Deputy Grand Matron, as well as the Grand Representative. In her spare time Lois was an accomplished seamstress and she enjoyed making counted cross stitch pieces. She often created clever computer greeting cards which she frequently sent to friends and family. Lois was especially devoted to her children and grandchildren whom she adored. Survivors include her children, Kenneth W. Stout and Kathy (Steve) Ohrt; two grandchildren, McLean and Kalyn Ohrt; one brother, Lloyd Hartenberger and wife, Sandy; a niece, Angee Jean Gonzalez and a nephew, Michael Hartenberger. Also surviving are special friends, the Snavelys and the Bransons, who the family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude for their caring love and support. Friends may call at Cozean Memorial Chapel on Monday, December 29, 2014, from 4-7 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 7 p.m. beginning with an Eastern Star Service. In lieu of flowers, memorials, if desired, may be made to Genevieve Baptist Church Cemetery. A private burial will be at a later date.
