Lester Pete Winston Sloan of Farmington passed away Tuesday, November 8, 2011, at Missouri Baptist Medical Center, at the age of 85 years. He was born on March 10, 1926, in Thayer, MO, son of the late Pearl (Braden) and James Isaac Sloan. He was also preceded in death by a great-grandson. Pete was a member of the Genevieve Baptist Church, where he served as Deacon and Chairman of the Deacon Board in 1997. He proudly served his country in the U. S. Army in World War II. He was a member of the American Legion Post 416 and VFW Post 5896, both of Farmington. Before retirement Pete worked as a mechanic for the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Division of Parks and Recreation. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him and that includes his wife of 64 years, Mary Lou (Rogers) Sloan, son, Dennis Sloan of Farmington, daughters, Regenia Bodine (Larry) of Bonne Terre, Patricia Kennedy (Kenny) of Ste. Genevieve, and Brenda Myers (Chester Allen) of Farmington, a sister, Alice Sloan of the State of Texas, five brothers, Mr. & Mrs. Chester Sloan, Glen Tom Sloan, Mr. & Mrs. James Sloan, Mr. & Mrs. Garry Sloan, all of Farmington and Mr. & Mrs. Herbert Russell Sloan of Raymore, MO, 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, a step-great-grandchild, his roommate at Camelot, Larry Whited and a special friend, Rachael Mynear. The family would also like to give a special thank you to the staff at Camelot Nursing & Rehab Center for their compassionate, caring and dedicated service. The family will receive friends at Cozean Memorial Chapel from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, November 10. Visitation will resume at 7 a.m. on Friday with a funeral service at 9 a.m. Military Honors will follow the funeral service at Cozeans. Interment will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Thayer City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, St. Jude's Childrens Hospital or the American Heart Association.
