Leroy Burns

July 19, 1931 — December 22, 2022

FARMINGTON Leroy Burns of Farmington, passed away on December 22, 2022, at Parkland Hospital at the age of 91. He was born in Elvins on July 19, 1931 to the late Juel Stanton Burns and Mildred Irene Turner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathleen Burns, a grandson, Weston Blake Miller; his twin brother, Leo Burns and two sisters, Marie and Helen. Leroy grew up in the Presbyterian Childrens Home in Farmington and later went to the Boys Home where Maudie and Louie Asher were his caretakers. While there he worked on the farm, and he often said those were the best years of his childhood. He and his identical twin brother, Leo, went together and enlisted in the Marine Corps and he proudly served in the military until he was honorably discharged. Upon his return to the Farmington area, he married the love of his life, Marilyn Young in 1955. He began a career as a butcher with A & P and later IGA. In 1980 he began his own meat processing business, L & M Processing. Leroys favorite pastime was going to auctions and buying and restoring tractors and farm implements. He was a member of the American Legion and the Mineral Area Heritage Tractor Club. Leroy will be remembered for his strong work ethic and his love for his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Marilyn; three daughters, Debbie (Dean) Hastings, Karen (Richard) Detring, and Sandy (Larry) Miller; seven grandchildren, Matt Garrison, Melissa (Anthony) White, Brad (Courtney) Detring, Jill (Brian) Kohut, Jenna (Kyle) Carter, Ashtyn (Brandon) Dane; twenty-one great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.
