Leota Marie Layton of Farmington passed away Sunday, September 4, 2011, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center, at the age of 80 years. She was born October 16, 1930, at Buckhorn, MO, daughter of the late Lee and Anna (Kelley) Skaggs. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Freda Forsythe. Leota was employed for many years as a crew cook aboard the river barges of Archer-Daniels-Midland Company, and worked on the Mississippi, Ohio and other connecting river-ways. In her spare time she enjoyed fishing, cooking for her friends and family and taking care of her cat and beloved companion Abby . Leota will be missed by all those who knew and loved her, including her daughter, Vickie and husband Randy Horn of Farmington, two grandchildren, Nicholas Horn of St. Louis, and Katie Horn of Farmington, a sister, Retha Todd of Hazelwood and a brother-in-law, Earl Forsythe of Branson. Many other relatives, neighbors and close friends also survive. Friends may call at the Cozean Memorial Chapel from 4 until 8 p.m. on Tuesday September 6, 2011. Visitation will resume at 7 a.m on Wednesday, with a funeral service at 10 a.m. with the Reverend Jay Lacey officiating. Burial will be at Hillview Memorial Gardens.
