Leonard Mcfadden, Jr.

Leonard "Mac" McFadden Jr. of Farmington passed away on Wednesday, January 23, 2013, at the age of 97. Mac was born on May 24, 1915, at Mayfield, KY, son of the late Leonard McFadden and Mettie Ann "Tiny" (West) McFadden. He wasprecededin death by his wife of 44 years, Thelma Ernestine (Pamplin) McFadden, in 1991; his eldest son, Leonard III, in 2011; and his sister and brother in law, Opal (McFadden) Quesnel and Victor Quesnel, all of Farmington. A 1933 graduate of Bonne Terre High School, Mac enlisted in in the United States Navy in May 1936 and served over twenty years with distinction until September 1956. He served under hazardous conditions in China prior to World War II, spent much of World War II in the Pacific Theater and Iceland, then in the Korean War. Twice he was assigned to vessels that took him on around-the-world tours of duty before retiring as a Chief Petty Officer/ Chief Hospital Corpsman/ Pharmacist Mate. He worked at McKesson & Robbins as apharmaceuticalsalesman for 15 years in St. Louis, and sold real estate in Terre Du Lac and Texas until his retirement in 1978. Mac was honored by Farmington VFW Post 5896 in 2009 as a 72 year member of the VFW andreceiveda Citation of Special Recognition. Mac was a lifelong Democrat who contributed to many charitable and humanitarian causes. Mac is survived by his son, Kevin Michael McFadden of Sarasota, FL; andgranddaughters Patricia Jean McFadden and Erin Kathleen McFadden of St. Louis. Visitation will be held at Cozean Memorial Chapel on Monday, January 28 from 10 to 11 with services at 11 a.m. in the Cozean Chapel. Interment will follow at St. Francois Memorial Park in Bonne Terre. Memorials may be made to the Farmington Pet Adoption Center.
